Bush Dinar

Political painting and Iraqi-dinar collage, including the 2006 Bush Dinar exhibition.

Historical Artwork

The documented exhibition

Steven used Iraqi dinar as a surface for political collage, describing the work in his artist history as a protest against bombing. The use of currency brought the political image onto an object already tied to the place and its everyday life. Bush Dinar was exhibited at Everett Station Gallery in Portland, Oregon, in 2006.

Steven also identifies a Bush series of eight paintings. The broader political work developed during a period of montage and multimedia exploration, following his Air Force service and work with the United Nations in Baghdad. The eight paintings and the dinar-based works retain their distinct descriptions while their individual histories are documented.

In the early practice

Ochs was developing photomontage and digital collage around this period; the CV records shows in Seattle, Aspen, Dublin and other cities. The dinar works bring a political purpose to that practice of combining images and changing their context.
